Ms. Russo - Grade 5
Instructor: Ms. Russo
Welcome to Ms. Russo's Fifth Grade Webpage. I have been enjoying getting to know your children these past few weeks. Fifth grade brings much excitement and many changes. We will be working on several projects in all subject areas. Some of these projects will be completed in small groups at school, while others will be done individually at home. Fifth graders will also be switching for some classes in preparation for middle school. I will be teaching Social Studies to all fifth Graders. In Social Studies, students will learn about early explorers like Columbus, Cortez, and Magellan. We will later learn about colonial America, the American Revolution, and geography skills. This school year will be very busy and lots of fun!
Scholastic Book Orders
Books can be ordered directly online at http://scholastic.com. Please remember to include our class activation code, HG4HM, so our class can get free books for our classroom library. Of course, you can also use the order form I send home with your child if you prefer to pay by check or money order. Please make checks payable to Scholastic.
To celebrate your child's birthday, your child can choose to have 10 minutes of indoor free time, 10 minutes of outdoor recess, or play an indoor game with the class. Just let me know at least one day in advance so that I can make arrangements. Children whose birthdays are during the summer vacation can choose to celebrate their birthdays any time during the school year.
Students may bring in a healthy snack to school each day. Please limit this to one item. They may also bring bottled water everyday if they wish. Please be sure that all bottles have your child's name on them and secure caps to prevent spills. No juices please.
Please be sure to send in a note with your child if you need to change your usual dismissal arrangements. Phone calls will not be accepted except in cases where a last minute change was necessary. In this case, please call the main office.
