HOMEWORK

  • Homework

Homework is to be completed every night and returned the following day.  Please let me know if your child ever has difficulty with the homework.  Homework is meant to reinforce skills taught in school.   It is not meant to frustrate.

    • Monday:        Speller's Choice Menu & Math
    • Tuesday:       My Memory Words & Math
    • Wednesday:  Reading Comprehension & Math
    • Thursday:     Speller's Choice, Math Sheet, & Fluency Folders (Fluency Folders are due each Monday)
    • Friday:          No Homework (Fluency Folders are due on Monday if not completed yet)

Math Homework:  Math homework will have two sides ~ "Practice" and "Enrichment".  Always complete the Practice side.  The Enrichment side is optional.

READING

  • Superkids

The SuperKids reading program is a fun and exciting approach that teaches your child to read and write.  First-graders learn more complex letter-sound relationships. They apply these new skills to longer decodable stories and informational texts and in their writing. Reading comprehension and fluency are emphasized. All skills are carefully integrated and taught in multiple modes—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic—to reinforce language learning.

YOU are an important part of our reading curriculum.  Have your child read to you 10-15 minutes each night.  Don't forget to fill out the reading log and return to school when it is complete.  Enjoy spending time reading with your little one.  :-)

MATH

  • math

EnVision Math in grade 1 focuses on critical areas such as: (1) developing understanding of and strategies for addition and subtraction; (2) developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones; (3) developing understanding of linear measurement and measuring lengths as iterating length units; and (4) reasoning about attributes of, and composing and decomposing geometric shapes.

Math facts are very important to know and are an important part of first-grade.   Addition and subtraction flashcards are a great strategy for practicing.
