Programs & Services

The Department of Special Services strives to provide a wide array of program and service options as required by the State and Federal regulations to students with special needs living within the district.  The Child Study Teams of Hanover Township continually renew their commitment to providing students with programs and services that enable them to be educated in their home district schools as much as possible.  This programming approach is known as providing special education and related services in the least restrictive environment, as dictated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004.

Elementary Schools
Depending on the needs of each individual student, all of our elementary schools have the following programs and services available:
  • Resource Center In Class Support
  • Resource Center Replacement Instruction
  • Resource Center Out of Class Support
  • Speech Language Therapy
  • Occupational and Physical Therapy

Middle School
Students at the middle school have access to the following programs and services, again depending upon their individual needs:
  • Resource Center In Class Support
  • Resource Center Replacement Instruction
  • Resource Center Out of Class Support
  • Speech Language Therapy
  • Occupational and Physical Therapy

Specialized Programs and Services
Some students' particular needs cannot be addressed through the above programs and services.  The district has therefore created the following additional self-contained, small-group learning program that are housed in a centralized location:
  • Preschool Disabled Self-Contained Classes (For eligible students from ages 3-5)
  • Self-Contained Class for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (Elementary level)
  • Self-Contained Classes for Students with Multiple Disabilities (Separate Classes for Elementary and Middle School Age Students)
In addition to the above specialized programs, the district reviews each student's individual needs and will consider and/or provide other program and service options as appropriate to provide a free and appropriate public education.
